The Jesse James Bike Tour is one of the main events of the annual Defeat of Jesse James Days celebrations in Northfield, Minnesota. DJJD takes place on the weekend after Labor Day and commemorates the failed bank robbery of 1876 which led to the ultimate downfall of the James-Younger gang.

This year’s ride will take place on September 6 and features 30, 45, 60, and 100 mile routes around southern Minnesota’s rolling hills, lakes and forests.

There is also a 10 mile ride for children which features rest stops with chances to Capture the James-Younger Gang.

Starting times:

  • Get Away/100 mi. 6:30-8
  • Desperado/60 mi. 6:30-8
  • Shortcut/45 mi. 7:00-10:00
  • Posse/30 mi. 7:00-10
  • Townsfolk/10 mi. 8:00-10

In 2006, despite chilly weather, more than 1000 riders took part. About the same number participated in 2007..

Here’s a PDF of the map for the 2007 tour, all four routes. The 2008 routes will be similar, unless roadwork necessitates changes.  Of course, SAG and medical support will be available.

Come and join us for the ride and to enjoy the other events of Northfield’s Defeat of Jesse James Days, including reenactments of the bank robbery. It is the second largest event of this type in the state.
